Private Client Lawyer

Due to continued business growth, we have an opportunity for an experienced Private Client Solicitor to join our legal team to head up our private client work.

Ideally with a minimum of 5-year’s PQE, you will have experience of building and managing your own case load with demonstrable ability to work on a full range of Private Client matters including Wills, Probate, Trusts, Powers of Attorney and Tax Advice.

  • Experience within a Private Client department
  • 5-year’s PQE
  • Able to manage files and work to agreed deadlines
  • Confident, friendly, professional and positive
  • Able to work under your own initiative
  • Committed to providing Gold Standard client care

Role Summary

To provide expert legal support and advice to clients with minimal supervision, in line with the firm’s procedures and gold standard.

To undertake networking and other activities to promote Milne Moser’s services.

Key Responsibilities

  • To grow and maintain own client base, referring to other fee earners in their areas of specialism.
  • To take initial enquiry from clients to establish the firm’s suitability to provide the necessary advice and services, based on the firm’s specialisms, likely cost, conflicts and other risk factors.
  • To take a client’s instructions ensuring that all internal and compliance procedures are followed. Advise them on the likely costs, law and legal issues relating to their case.
  • To draft/dictate documents, letters, attendance notes and contracts tailored to the client’s individual needs and relevant procedures for the type of matter. To check all documentation prior to signing.
  • To research and analyse documents and case law to ensure the accuracy of advice and procedure.
  • To coordinate the work of all parties involved, including corresponding with clients and other parties’ solicitor and attendance at meetings as required to progress the matter to its conclusion.
  • To negotiate with clients and other professionals to secure agreed objectives.
  • To act on behalf of clients in disputes and represent them in court, if necessary.
  • To instruct barristers or specialist advocates to appear in court for the client in complex disputes and prepare papers for court (where relevant).
  • To supervise the day-to-day work and delegate work to secretaries as appropriate.

  • To assist with motivating and training secretaries.

  • To ensure that all activity on a file is time recorded to ensure correct billing.

  • To manage files ensuring all compliance is completed and recorded and a file review is maintained as to the latest progress.

  • To review monthly reports to keep on top of aged debts, aged disbursements, billing, WIP and chase as required.

  • To keep up to date with changes and developments in law, compliance and office procedures and report any breaches.

  • To assist the Partners with projects/tasks as required.

  • To maintain a Development Plan and Record in line with the SRA requirements.

  • To undertake other similar duties as required.

Reporting Lines

This role reports to the Head of Department.

This role does not have any direct reports. However, the role has an element of supervisory responsibility for directing the day-to-day work of their support staff.
